Q: A friend gave me some delicious, local, very spicy and very sweet chili jam.
Other than the occasional spread on toast for an interesting snack, though, i'm not quite sure what to do with it. It is delicious, but i need some ideas for putting it to good use!

Editor: Veronica, one of our favorite ways to use sweet chili jam is as an appetizer. Spread toasts or crackers with cream cheese, then top with chili jam. Spicy and sweet, but refreshing, too!
Readers, any good ideas for Veronica? Here's a recipe if you want to try making this jam at home, too...

Make a great sammich with it---cream cheese, jam, ham. Or maybe a melted manchego and jam panini!
A local restaurant serves it with hot buttered biscuits at their brunch. Delicious! You could probably throw some ham in the same biscuits and take them on a picnic. Now, how do I make my own sweet pepper jam?
Mix it in with some stir fry or noodles.
I have a Thai sweet chili sauce in my fridge... I wonder if this might be similar. I use it to spice up brown rice that I serve along-side grilled chicken.
I'm a sucker for that sweet-hot vibe.
Try brushing it over roast pork the last 30 minutes its in the oven, maybe even add some pineapple to it. Sweet and spicy pork!
Make a vinaigrette dressing with it. Olive oil, white wine or champaign vinegar, garlic, dijon mustard, fresh herbs if you have them, salt, pepper, and a scoop of that jelly.
It is really great on hot dogs with fresh onions!
I love to use it on meats as a marinade or sauce. It also is great mixed with cream cheese on crackers.
on polenta!
Use it on anything you'd use ketchup--like a veggie burger.
Mix it with chicken and daikon, use for potsticker filling.
Love it with cheese and on toast. Try it with a perfectly ripened goat's milk brie and crackers.
Glaze for roast meats.
Use it for snack. Crackers cream cheese chili jam. If the chili jam is good, you will not stop eating them.
To simplify the preparation, just place the entire cream cheese in a plate, and put the jam on top. You could also put some sesame seeds on top, and crackers around it. Put several butter knives so everyone prepares their own crackers.
Lumpia
Thai summer rolls
Fried green tomatoes
I use it all the time w/cream cheese & as a glaze for pork/chicken.
(love the vinaigrette idea, bwaibel)
Thin with vinegar, wine or sake and use as a dipping sauce. Especially with fried such as tempura.
Kebabs!!! Like from Australia! My favorite is the pita filled with roast chicken, cheese, onions, tomato, lettuce, and sweet chili sauce/jam, which they then roll up and wrap in aluminum and press to heat and it creates a bit of a crust on the pita... The sweet chili sauce is amazing in it, pulls it all together, and I miss having a kebab shop right nearby!
There's an Afghani stand at my local farmer's market, they make an amazing variation on the cream cheese and crackers with the chili jam, a garlic mint cheese spread and spinach flat bread... yum!
Try a putting it on a cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese, apple-wood smoked bacon and red leaf lettuce. Delicious!
I second the stirfry suggestion. Its delicious with chicken and vegies and a sprinkling of cashews over the top to serve.
On a ham sandwich.
With roast or grilled chicken or pork.
On top of some kind of spready cheese on a cracker.
As a dip for spring rolls.
on a bacon, egg & cheese!
I love it on burgers!
On a toasted onion bagel with cream cheese....ahhhh...
On quesadillas!
In a nice fried egg sandwich with arugula. Or anywhere tomato jam is used.
