The Summer 2011 collection isn't a full-on assault on Crate & Barrel and kitchen supply stores. There aren't any food processors or whisks on display. But there is more than West Elm's usual range of simple tableware. They are offering some kitchen accessories like cutting boards, a mortar and pestle, and the most adorable butter dish ever. This puts them closer to Anthropologie in the retail space — not necessarily focused on practical tools, but offering some stylish, stand-out pieces for the kitchen.
The new lines coming out this week include a collection ("Flow") of rustic stoneware tableware with a handmade feel. Really lovely stuff — I especially like the wood-topped storage jars (I hope they have seals!) and the large salad bowls. The other line is called "The Modern Collection" and it is inspired by Scandinavian design, pop art, and whimsical color. Lots of bright, juicy color and a bit of retro flair here. (Have I mentioned that butter dish?) Look for this new kitchen collection online and in West Elm stores starting right now. I'm looking forward to checking it out in person and seeing how it all looks in real life. • See the new kitchen line: Kitchen Accessories at West Elm Do you shop at West Elm for any of your tableware or kitchenware?
