Welcome back to The Kitchn! We've been on break for two weeks, reviewing the best of 2010 (take a look at all our review posts here) but this week we're back to cooking. We know that many people want light, wholesome food after the rich joys of the holidays. But it's still cold outside, and we want to snuggle up with something comforting to eat. So all month we'll be talking healthy comfort food — starting with soups! It's all soup all week, so tell us here what your favorite soup is, and what you'd like to see us cover. Happy soup-making!

I'd love to see more broth based recipes! The one pictured above looks delicious!
I'd like to see bean soups, particularly with beans that become the 'sauce'.
I'd love a good recipe for the Polish fermented rye and sausage soup called zureck!
i'd love to see some delicious soups that have very few ingredients. my recently acquired tiny kitchen leaves me inspired with recipes that require chopping up 10 different things.
I'm a huge fan of hearty soups with things like lentils. I freeze them and take them for lunch at work, so new ideas that will be healthy and filling always welcome!
This time of year, soup is my go-to food!
I feel like all my soups start with sauteed onion, celery, garlic, and carrot, which is usually a great (and quick) start, but I would like to branch out.
I'd like two things: a soup recipe that can finally use up the package of frozen tortellini that has been in my garage freezer for the last 3 years and soups that are assembled in the crockpot.
When I make onion soup I prepare about triple the amount of onions and when they get to the sweated down stage I freeze two lots of onions. I only need to add stock to make up the soup. V handy to serve followed by an omelette for unexpected guests.
My favourite soups: potato-leek with rosemary and roasted garlic; the Cuban black bean soup posted on this site (amazing!); Melissa Clark's red lentil with lemon.
I loved this lentil soup served at a Middle Eastern restaurant I used to frequent. I'd love a recipe for a spicy lentil soup like that. Also: hearty vegetarian soups (trying to eat even fewer animal products this year) and I second soups that can be prepared in the crock-pot.
Would love to see some spicier soup recipes and/or soups from different parts of the world.
I'd like to see Tom Yum soup featured.
I'd love to see an easy recipe for Tom Ka soup (either with chicken or vegetarian)!
Could you write something about taking soup to work? I find my thermos often fails me (even with the boiling water trick) and I wonder if there are any good reheatable containers I could use instead.
Thanks!
This butternut squash soup has become one of my favorite winter dinners - warm, flavorful, and comforting!

- Vegetarian soups
- A healthy corn chowder without lots of cream/meat
- Tom Yum
Funny, I made 3 soups over the New Years Weekend! French Onion in the slow cooker, Butternut Squash with the last of the CSA haul, and Turkey Noodle Soup with the last of Thanksgiving meat in the freezer. Looking forward to new ideas!
I'm excited about soup week! I've been trying to make a pot of soup each week so that I can bring it to lunch every day to help with my weight loss efforts. This week I made a soup with collard greens and black eyed peas (both of which I always cook on new year's day for good luck) and it is amazing!
To the person who asked about bringing soup to work, the best thing I've found so far is reusing my ball canning jars. I make the soup and immediately fill the jars and refridgerate them. They are a little heavier to carry in my lunch bag but all I need to do is take the lid off and heat the jar of soup in the microwave. Working great for me and I'm happy to get some use out of all those canning jars I don't normally use during winter months.
This roasted carrot and garlic soup totally happened by accident - but immediately became one of my favorites ever:

I would love to see vegetarian/vegan soups featured! I am a soup lover but since I became vegetarian I've found pretty much my only options are a veg based minestrone or potato soup!
i'm currently in love with korean tofu soup. :-)
to the person who asked about taking soup to work -- tupperware? i use a rubbermaid "takealong" that's 2.6 cups, suits me just fine :)
wow, love love love the vegetarian Pho and the Egyptian Tomato soup looks fabulous! Love soups!
Vegetarian or vegan soups, and recipes that don't require a blender or food processor would be great.
I did Soup week on my blog early in December!!
Here's the roundup from the week :)

I can't wait to see some good recipes this week!
vegetarian soups!
Vegetable-based soups! The sort of thing that can take the place of a salad in wintertime.
I got on a big soup kick making a few different kinds this weekend. Easy and so good. But my husband and I are... shall we say... a bit bloated from all of the vegetables and barley. Got any soups that are less fiber filled but still as yummy?
Pho please! I tried once before and couldn't get the broth quite right.
Small portion recipes please for those of us who make too much soup and end up throwing it away.
And also, please do a small feature on one of the best and easiest soups ever, porrusalda.
In case anyone still has soup on the brain, here's a yummy one:

It's for curried butternut chickpea soup. Also threw in some pureed cauliflower for a full meal in one pot.
