All of us here at The Kitchn have been really looking forward to March. We're spending a whole week on each meal of the day: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and — that's right — dessert. So let's jump right into Breakfast Week. What would you like to talk about this week? Pancakes? Whole grains? Eggs? Coffee? How do you start off your mornings, and what would you like to chat about?

Bacsac Bacsquare 04...

I am a picky eater in the morning, far more than the rest of the day. I'd love some ideas for quick, non-sweet breakfast that does not contain eggs.
Oh, I second the request for non-sweet, non-egg breakfasts. That's just the kind of thing my partner wants to eat in the mornings.
I would also be interested in getting more fresh, seasonal produce in the morning. I feel like I always fall back on grains or eggs for breakfast!
I would love some healthy breakfast options. We seems stuck in a rut where we are either eating cereal, sausage or eggs for breakfast which I very boring. Meals that can be prepared ahead of time would be great to save time on mornings.
My favourite meal of the day! I always make time for a good cooked breakfast in the morning - usually some combination of eggs and veggies. I just bought a slow cooker and am trying to find some possible breakfast recipes (besides oatmeal) that I could use it for.
Substitutes for cereal! That's the one oversweetened, super-processed food I can't wean myself off of, and when I see it on sale at the supermarket, it is way more appetizing than a week of homemade oatmeal. ARE there other sweet, filling, non-dairy breakfasts that are quick but more interesting than oatmeal?
New ideas for oatmeal would be great! And I am always looking for a new breakfast casserole/strata recipe.
Something portable and high-protein would be fantastic!
I'd like to see some healthy breakfast options that AREN'T oatmeal or grain-based.
Yes, a great tasting, portable, high protein easy breakfast.
something unique! I'm trying to achieve 365 different breakfasts this year so I'm trying lots of different things. Already done 64 different ones :D
I am not sure that news of this breakfast item has made it's way to America, but up here in Canada, we have the best breakfast cereal ever invented. It is called Holy Crap (Best name EVER). I have that with some homemade yogurt in the morning and it keeps me going till lunch no problem! Seriously, I recommend looking into it!
I would be more interested in breakfast food from around the world and different cultures that aren't so well know in the Western world.
Savory recipes for oats (assorted kinds), quinoa, rice, grains, etc. that can be made on Sunday to enjoy all week.
Fresh squeezed small glass of orange juice, a good cup of coffee (Arabica), natural yogurt and fresh figs.
I'm with fulinlin above would love to see what people around the world eat for breakfast along with some recipes to try out.
I'd like a recipe for a muffin or baked good that you can grab on the go that doesn't contain a lot of fat and sugar.
Last year sometime - maybe your breakfast week? - you introduced me to the idea of breakfast polenta, and I've since included that into my fairly regular routine. I eat a fair amount of polenta for dinner and love being able to use leftovers to make a super delicious and filling breakfast. I'd love to hear other ideas for incorporating leftovers from last night's dinner into this morning's breakfast.
I second the request for stories about what people eat for breakfast around the world!
Accidents, that's wonderful! I'm impressed!
I agree with the calls for unique/international/not exclusively grain or egg based/savory recipes and add to that a request for make-ahead breakfasts (that aren't a week of oatmeal or breakfast burritos). I've been trying to get in the habit of making enough at dinner to freeze lunches for the next week - and would love freezer breakfasts too! You know, the "thaw in fridge overnight, warm in the oven while you walk the dog" kind.
I'm trying to lose weight and would love to see some quick, healthy options. It would be nice to have the nutrition information, if possible.
A reminder that "put an egg on it!" does not equal breakfast. Pizza, burritos, salads, ratatouille, etc are all delicious on their own, and all make a perfectly fine breakfast on their own with or without the addition of an egg!
Do you guys post things like my "breakfast bowl?" Highly versatile with what goes in it. Today featured a sweet potato (hashed and cooked with a bit of olive oil), spinach, tomato, bell pepper, jalapeno pepper, an egg, onion, garlic, sea salt, black pepper, and srirachi sauce. It's a great way to get in veggies for breakfast and can be chopped and cut up the night before, then thrown in the skillet after that first drought of coffee. Basically toss in what ever you want in whatever proportion and it could always benefit from additional spices. Broccoli is really good too in these too, with some sunflower nuts and cranberries. Really easy to make these more carnivore friendly too, or add in some quinoa (or any grain really) if you are not tired of the grains.
Also, yogurt! (Homemade? Vegan?) Plain, Greek style yogurt, mixed with about a tablespoon of honey (or flaked coconut) with berries, bananas, (any fruit), and some roasted or raw almonds/pecans/walnuts/etc. Clementine and cranberry with pecans was an interesting combination for a late fall/early winter version. And for a less sweet version, maybe a little dill, some cucumber, pistachios, and scallions or chives Yogurt bowls can be transformed into a smoothie pretty easily too.
I go through ups and downs with wanting to eat eggs and have enzyme processing fail with most dairy, so finding new breakfast experiment ideas are always fun.
My go-to breakfast is a nice cup of homemade (Lavazza) espresso with homemade puffed rice bars (which my son absolutely loves!!). If I have the time in the morning I make some yummy French toast...

Although my blog is geared toward babies and toddlers, the entire family eats what's posted on the blog. Check out my Nutella-Swirl Pumpkin Muffins...although you might want to omit the Nutella!

Recipes for something you can make on Monday and eat all week!
I would appreciate an article on breakfast menus with protein and a vegetable that are under 250 calories. This is one meal that I almost always eat at home so have more caloric control. Currently I have one poached egg, whole wheat toast, and cooked greens or sliced tomato. I vary this by eating beans on toast or occasionally some oatmeal with fruit in it.
I would love to see some more savory vegan breakfast ideas! And some good make-ahead breakfasts for work other than oats/porridge.
Here is a great recipe for Vegan Cheesy Oats that are SO good and quick! It's delicious topped w/ black beans, avocado, tomato sauce/salsa, kale, and sriracha!
Yes--I completely second this. The other morning I decided to throw the leftovers of a chard, beetroot, and chickpea sauté I had made (fragrantly seasoned with fresh thyme + rosemary) on top of a warm, creamy bowl of polenta for breakfast and it was amazing! Not sure if that gives you any ideas laetitae, but I thought it might be up your alley.
In Israel a salad is eaten at breakfast which, as far as I can determine, is called "Israeli salad." Once I got used to it, the idea of eating a salad at breakfast seemed quite appealing.
I would have to agree on the savory non-egg non burrito breakfast request. I just kicked my savory oatmeal habit for a breakfast salad: romaine hearts, chickpeas and cucumbers (all prepared on Sunday) hit with the juice of half a lemon for zip.
So..maybe a breakfast salad post? Or savory oatmeal?
I love breakfast salad! I generally eat it in the summer - undressed leftovers from the night before.
I agree with those who said non-grain based breakfasts. I've been working to eat less grains, but breakfast is the place I struggle most. I'd love some new ideas, especially if they're quick or make ahead!
