Tatsoi may not show up in every CSA box this week, but we noticed it last week in the boxes coming from Tierra Miguel Farm in Pauma Valley, CA.
Tatsoi is in the same family as spicy mustard greens like rapini and mizuna. It has a distinctively soft rosette shape, and tender leaves. It's often used for salad or sandwich greens, but like most of these spicy mustards, is always great sauteed with garlic or wilted with pasta. Anyone ever cook with tatsoi, or see it in your CSA box? Read on for more recipes and tips...
This Halibut with Tatsoi and Spicy Thai Chiles looks just great - spicy and hot for the cold winter, and healthy, too. Another spicy recipe, working off the Asian flavors that suite tatsoi well, is this Red Curry Tatsoi. For something a little different, try this Tatsoi and Warm Scallop Salad with Spicy Pecan Praline. Warm and quick. One other that we'd love to try is this Crispy Duck Pancake with Tatsoi and Mustard Vinaigrette.
And here's some more general tips and recipes, including storage instructions, that suit most spicy greens.
