Beautiful, soft peach perfume with hints of stone and earthiness, this is a wonderful bottle of Riesling. As I've said before, Riesling is difficult to understand but this wine makes it easier.
First you have the perfumed nose, noticeable but not obvious; like the hint of perfume you smell only when you are close to someone, not the obnoxious aroma of one who has dowsed too much. This is a perfume that makes you want to smell again, each time noticing something different. Then you take a sip and the sweet fragrance you only smelled before compounds, becoming better and different while remaining the same.
In the 2005 JJ Christoffel Riesling, I experienced all of this. A nose like spring with blossom, peach and stone turned into a sip of summer with glorious acidity and sweet, voluptuous fruit. Each sip left me wanting more, while continuing to evolve, change and develop.
As there is a touch of sweetness in this wine it will pair well with something spicy, it is also nice on it's own as an aperitif.
