We've been eyeing the construction of the new Whole Foods on Columbus Avenue and 98th Street for a while now. (If you live in our neighborhood, no doubt you have been, too.) Well, the date is set. And we hear there's going to be a big wine store, too...
...which means they must have won this battle. Or else maybe the wine section will be a separate store, like the Trader Joe's wine store in Union Square? Anyone have the inside scoop?
This Whole Foods is part of a development called Columbus Square, which will include a bunch of other stores (Duane Reade, Crumbs, and the first Michael's craft store in Manhattan). We're beyond excited, and we think it'll actually bring foot traffic to the 97th Street farmers' market that sets up on that block on Fridays. The Whole Foods at Union Square sits right next to the farmers' market, and we frequently stop at both, getting local produce at the market and picking up everything else at the store.
We'll definitely bring you a report after opening day. In the meantime, let us know if you have any tips on the new store.
