Good Questions: A Good Camera Wall Display?

112108_an_camera-wall.jpgLooks like we're not the only ones that love old school cameras around here...

Hi Unplggd!

I stumbled upon your wonderful post about 35mm cameras yesterday and to be honest, you timing couldn't have been better! I'm looking for a wall display for show off all of my collected cameras over the past 2 years.. I have about 12 now.. and I thought I'd ask you guys to see if you knew a place where I could order one? Thanks!!

Well, it just so happens Apartment Therapy did a roundup not too long ago of wall display cases. We grabbed a few suggestions from there and included a few of our own. Enjoy!

112108_an_camera-wall3.jpgIt looks like Gemo carries a variety of display cases and even customizable ones for your liking.

112108_an_camera-wall4.jpgThe IKEA LACK wall shelf makes a comeback and continues to be one of the most versatile wall shelves we've ever seen.

112108_an_camera-wall2.jpgIt looks like the Container store also provide a few stackable ones if you prefer not to hang it on your wall.

The stackable display cases at the Container Store are massively overpriced. Every variety they sell which range in price from about $4-$8 can be bought in 100 yen shops in Tokyo for the U.S. equivalent of about a buck. They're all plastic and made in Taiwan or China. I've got a few of them for figuress which I put out on occasion, but they're not worth the Container Store's prices.

We have two lack shelves (one above the other) right above our tv with our old camera collection.... Once the film for that particular camera goes out of production, it joins the collection on the shelf. Anything we can still use goes into a camera bag where it won't get clogged with dust/dirt.

We also have some old useless lenses displayed there in their beautiful old leather cases.

Whenever we have a party we light little tea lights behind the cameras on the shelf to bring attention to them.... Always a good conversation starter for a couple of camera nerds like us!

Orchid, somehow I think the savings of $3-7 per shelf might not be offset by the cost of round-trip airfare to Tokyo.

The Container Store ones are too small for a normal camera, let alone a vintage one!

They do have a great selection of wall mounted shelving though, including display shelves that are less deep than the Lack shelving.

They have an entire "collections" department also.
