We've given approving thumbs up to toaster ovens many times here at The Kitchn; they're great for cooking in hot weather, reheating food without a microwave and for baking when you don't have a proper kitchen.
But we've avoided them ourselves because they tend to stink at doing the one thing we really want a toaster to do: make toast. Enter this two-in-one toaster/toaster oven from Avanti. We're not quite sure what to think...
This dual model has both a traditional pop-up toaster and a toaster oven. We would hope that the normal toaster side would be much faster than our friend's toaster oven - which takes probably five minutes to make a proper piece of toast. (We like it dark, but still!)
With not a lot of extra space taken up you get two kinds of toasters in one. What do you think? Is it worth it? Does anyone own one of these contraptions?

Hmmm, I'd be interested in knowing about this thing, too. I have a toaster oven and do love it's versatility but yeah, sometimes you just want a piece of toast pronto! (like in the am when I give myself all of 5 minutes to make and eat breakfast...)
I did own one of these - mine was branded by someone else, but it's obvious from the design that it was ultimately by the same maker. I can say with authority that it completely sucked and it got worse with the little use that I gave it. It was particularly bad with bagels, but also not great with just regular toast. The oven part was not really big enough to handle most things you'd want to put in a toaster oven - width-wise and especially height wise. I think I paid around $50 new for it at a kitchen outlet store and it was relegated to the garbage after about a year. I now use a Cuisinart 4 slice toaster and use my regular oven for things that need warming up.
