Several years ago my husband and I went to a friend's house for casual dinner. When we arrived the night's menu was sweetly written upon a chalkboard in her kitchen; it somehow marked the occasion, making it a special event. Ever since I've loved the idea of displaying the menu you've prepared in a special way.

This great idea from Nest of Posies is a simple DIY to accomplish. By finding a tray she no longer used for hosting and applying a coat of chalkboard paint to it, she's given it a new life and purpose. The paint allows for a menu to be written and shared with guests, and then removed once the celebration concludes. The display is not a permanent fixture, so it's easily tucked away when not in use.

Aaggggghhhaahhhehha!
Such a nice tray, now deceased!
So funny--I thought the original tray was hideous! But I love the chalkboard tray.
That looks awesome! Guess I should start looking for trays at the thrift store now!
Does that say "Butternut Squash Soap?"
@popsicle: yup, it says soap. For washing your hands before dinner. Must be CSA people. Gotta find something to do with the surplus.
So funny. I have the exact same tray and actually like it as something retro... ;)
