Looking for yet another alternative to plastic lunch baggies? Well, do you have an empty milk jug? Turn it into a take out container or sandwich container tonight!
Repurposing items makes everyone feel like they're doing their part. Even if the item can be recycled, it can feel even more satisfying to make it into something useful yourself. This project from Family Fun shows you how to turn a milk jug into one of two different items: a sandwich holder or a take out container.
There are two different options here too, one for plastic milk bottles and one for cardboard milk jugs. The plastic is sturdy enough to hold up to a little squishing in a lunch sack or backpack and will help keep small snacks together without the use of a plastic bag, and the cardboard box makes a sturdy container too.
Plus, what snack doesn't look adorable in a little take out container? You'll be the envious hit of the office!

Totally creative! Just added this to the list of rainy day weekend projects.
Really? Some people do have too much time on their hands.
The Amish (and also non-Amish homesteaders I know) convert them into makeshift chicken killing cones for butchering (we use actual killing cones, for the record).
I like the idea of it, but does anyone else think your bread would be stale by the time lunch rolled around? I don't know how well stiff milk jug plastic would seal up your sandwich.
i think it's a creative idea ^_^ especially for people with creative kiddos
The mom and daughter in the photo look extremely happy about this project. After making sure their sandwiches and grapes are wrapped up, they'll head down the hill to the barn with a couple more empty cartons and get started on the killing cones!
cmcinnyc--tears are rolling down my cheeks because you're so funny.
@cmcinnyc, I'm laughing so hard I think I woke up my neighbors...
cmcinnyc - you are pretty funny! I'm still laughing as I type this!
I think sandwiches would be too messy, but I'm all for other types of snacks in those! Or maybe some "assembly required" sandwiches. (no need for tomatoes to drip out)
