Here's another great idea for those of us who have to eat breakfast on the go. Flickr member S0mebody 3lse had the great idea to make pancakes in bar form and we're anxious to give it a try...
From the image description, it sounds like this person poured regular pancake batter into a casserole dish, sprinkled berries and brown sugar on top, and baked it in the oven at 400°.
The finished texture isn't mentioned, but the images make the bars look dense, firm, and less floppy than normal off-the-griddle pancakes. If so, this sounds perfect for wrapping in napkin and eating on our way to the bus stop.
If that's not the case, changing the liquid-to-dry ratio might result in a more portable pancake while maintaining the pancake-like flavor. Adding more flour, oats, or even ground nuts would make the batter more stiff, which would (theoretically) bake into a denser pancake bar.

These look messier than a typical pancake because the sides are open rather than cooked (well and the berries look pretty leaky) why not just roll up a normal pancake that solves the floppiness issue but they are still sealed.
Wouldn't it have been better to test this idea/recipe before recommending it rather than specuate and give vague instructions?

Intriguing idea. I think if you made these and cut them into pieces large enough to roll or fold, it might work fairly well.
Orchid and Skerlie -- If you go to the original image on flickr* it gives S0mebody 3lse's instructions (which Emma basically reproduces.) I always thought the point of the "Try this" posts was experimentation and adventure?
* This is admittedly a bit roundabout, since Emma didn't post a link. I think this is a shameful oversight, since theKitchn's reproducing the image and content without referring back the author... Unless there's some explanation for it?

the whole idea of baking it in one thing and then cutting it is so you don't have to individually flip pancakes, a deterrent to making pancakes in my household!
We do indeed have a policy of always linking to the original source of photographs we use. Also, we never use outside sources unless we have prior permission or, as is the case here, the photo is licensed for use under Creative Commons. Licensed in this way photos are open to use for continued discussion and free creative expression!
Which is exactly what's happening here -- we didn't test the recipe; we're simply throwing it out for discussion. Has anyone tried this yet?
