One of my favorite ways to dress up vanilla ice cream is with a big spoonful of bright orange mango puree. Sold in big cans at Indian markets, the sweetened fruit sauce turns a simple scoop into a tropical sundae.
My stepfather, who grew up in India, introduced this combination to me, and I have yet to find an ice cream topping I like better. It's simple enough to be a weekday treat, but unique and pretty enough to be served to guests as well. If you love mango, this dessert is a keeper.
The cans of mango pulp are big, so unless you eat a lot of ice cream, you'll have plenty left over for mango lassis, mango micheladas, and mango cocktails. It's also great over plain yogurt.
Have you ever tried this combination? How do you use mango puree?

Sounds yummy! Trader Joe's sells frozen packets of unsweetened mango puree that I thaw (in my bag on my way to work) and eat over plain greek yogurt. It never occurred to me to try it over ice cream. I think if I did that, I might add some ginger, cardamom and cinnamon to make it even a little more special. Thanks for the tip!
Yes! This is one of my favorite desserts!
Thank you... definitely going to give this one a try.
I've looked but yet to be able to find any purees at my local grocery. Only thing I'd be concerned about is having that inevitable "metal can" taste mixed in with the puree.
Mango is one of my favorite fruits. I cut up fresh ripe mangoes and add to yogurt, smoothies and cereal.
This has always been a staple in our house. There is literally nothing on earth like Indian Mango. My brother eats it on its own, and that's a treat enough for him!
