Fall To-Do List: Throw an Outdoor Dinner Party

We don't know about you, but we're not quite ready to pack up the picnic baskets and outdoor lanterns quite yet. And what better way to celebrate early fall weather than an outdoor dinner party under the stars? One San Francisco designer, party planner, and blogger shows us just how it's done.

Jordan Ferney of Oh Happy Day is no stranger to planning parties. But outdoor parties are always a bit more challenging, especially when they're right by the water under the Golden Gate Bridge. In a recent post, Jordan details a party she gave for her friend on an old fishing pier. Jordan will often choose a theme for her parties and this time around it was sparkles. The guests were asked to wear something sparkly and she outfitted the table in shimmery decor.

So what about the food? It was a cool evening so Jordan arranged to have potato leek soup, mac and cheese, and Kara's Cupcakes, a Bay Area favorite. With other parties, she's done a mix of salads, risotto, asparagus and ice cream sundaes. Simple, crowd-pleasing food. So while you may not have the Golden Gate Bridge as your backdrop, we suggest getting in one more outdoor meal before the evenings get too crisp.
