Amazon has their big Prime Day sale on today, hoping to lure customers in for Christmas in July. There are some good deals on quite a few things in the kitchen — is this the day to get that lovely robin's egg blue mixer you've coveted for so long? Here's a closer look — plus three accessories I think are worth having.

This mixer is a fabulous deal — just $200 for the professional-level model with the lift-bowl mechanism. It is, however, refurbished. If you prefer your mixers completely brand new out of the box, try this one:

The cobalt color is pretty yummy too.

If you're shopping for attachments, here are my three. The first is on serious sale. And OK, it's not actually an attachment, but it's a sweet accessory for your mixer, if you have a spot to put it.

This is on sale from about $300. It's a heavy-duty lift that lets you mount your stand mixer inside a cabinet, and lift it smoothly and easily with a lever. If you have the space to hide your mixer away, this is the way to do it.

I don't bother with most of the KitchenAid attachments, but I love this one. It's an extruder that makes all different shapes of pasta. I'll load it up a few times a year and make big batches of bucatini and rigatoni — which freeze beautifully. It's an investment of an attachment, but if pasta is part of your household routine, I recommend it; I use it far more than my hand-cranked pasta sheet maker.

Last but not least, my favorite "attachment" — heavier, denser, stainless steel whip that goes with the larger bowl-lift KitchenAid mixer models. I wish this came in the box with the mixer; it's far superior to the smaller whip that accompanies the mixer.
