How do you store your knives in the kitchen? There are advantages and limitations to every solution: Magnetic racks take up wall space (and scare some people!); knife blocks consume precious counter space; drawer inserts can monopolize a drawer better used for other things.
Here's an interesting idea, and one that makes use of an otherwise unusable space: an ultra-narrow pull-out.
Here's how this little cupboard looks when it's closed; see the tiny amount of space it takes up on the left of the stove.
Sometimes when laying out kitchen cabinets you're stuck with a tiny sliver of space like this somewhere. You can create pull-outs or cabinets for skinny, flat tools or baking sheets.
But this knife block is my favorite use of an ultra-narrow cupboard yet, I think. It takes advantage of knives' seriously slim profile and stores them upright without consuming drawer or countertop space.
Of course, you'd need to be in the midst of remodeling your kitchen to make this happen, but file it away for the dream kitchen!
