Do you cook in your fireplace? Well, imagine how amazing it would be if you had a built-in wood fireplace right there in your kitchen. Think of all the wood-fired pizzas! Not to mention how toasty warm the room would be all winter. Love!

OOOooohhh... VERY nice
Everything tastes better cooked over a fire!
I'd love to have a cooking fireplace in my kitchen, but it's certainly a crazy idea to put it next to the refrigerator!
You'd have to make sure your wood was bug-free. And I'd really rather have a beehive oven for baking. Historically, people have made everything from bread to beans in those ovens. Although I have cooked with my cast-iron skillet in our fireplace before (right off the kitchen, and sadly at floor level) when the power was out.
Also pretty crazy to put your books above it.
Though I'll admit, next to the fridge seemed a tad counter-productive, to me, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything else about this kitchen - particularly the fireplace. That it's at counter height is just to die for! I've always wanted a fireplace in every room (talk about heating inefficiency!), and a wood-fired oven and/or cook stove for the kitchen. Cooking over fire is a very primal, satisfying feeling, and food cooked that way is incredible. But, I don't want to give up my modern conveniences, either. Cooking over fire, then tossing the dishes into the dishwasher just feels so... right!
