We all know that muffins are just cakes disguised as breakfast fare, so why not really go all out and make these triple chocolate muffins? Made with melted semi-sweet chocolate, cocoa powder, and dark chocolate chips, these decadent treats are for serious chocolate-lovers only.

In order to keep these muffins from leaning too far into brownie territory, the author adds sour cream to the wet ingredients, which she says "lightens up the batter so the final product will be really rich, yet very soft." She also calls for mini chocolate chips so you get that melty chocolate goodness in every bite — smart! While you can use semi-sweet chocolate chips if that's all you have on hand, dark chocolate chips are ideal, as they help offset the sugar overload in these muffins.

Rich and fudgy, these little "chocolate bombs," as the author affectionately calls them, are perfect alongside your morning cup of coffee. No, they're not the healthiest breakfast option, but they sure are a sweet way to treat yourself every now and then!
