Easy, Pretty Cookies: Snowflake Cookie Cutters

2009-12-09-Snowflakes.jpgI know we've been talking about Christmas cookies a lot these past couple of weeks (hey, it's the season!) but here's just one more pretty thing for your cookie baking adventures. If I was going to buy one new set of cookie cutters this year, this would be it.

I have a particular fondness for baking tools that help us novice bakers and decorators to make pretty things without too much fussiness or stress. These gorgeous cookie cutters come with three different size snowflake shapes, and two center cutters, so you can create cut-out snowflakes that are beautifully multi-dimensional. But you don't have to rely on your icing skills (mine are distinctly sketchy) or other craftiness to get that lovely look; the cutters do it all for you.

That's my kind of baking tool.

I purchased these on a clearance table at Williams-Sonoma during their after-Christmas sale last year. They will be a stocking stuffer for my sister-in-law who loves to bake!

Those look really elegant.

these are super cute! It looks like Amazon has them for $9.00. If you're on a budget :)

Bought them a few weeks ago and am loving them! However, some doughs have worked out better than others. Does anyone have suggestions for a cookie recipe that would work well with such intricate cut-outs? Thank you for your help!

Oh, good for the holidays and into January also.

Beautiful!

lmf - the current Cook's Illustrated Holiday Baking mag has their recipe for cutouts that is FOOLPROOF. It's my go-to, works-every-time cutout recipe.

They recycle recipes, this one was in last year's (and the year before, too I think.)

i bought these cookie cutters a few years ago and i LOVE them! they work wonderfully with a good, basic cut-out recipe or gingerbread.

takes no time at all to use (you do need to use a chopstick sometimes to "poke" out the smaller cutouts) and the results are elegant.

last year i made snowflake cookies, piped with royal icing and added edible glitter to the tops. put them into individual cookie envelopes and gave them to co-workers. success!

Also, the sugar cookie recipe I linked up above is very good for this sort of cookie; it's easy to roll out and holds its shape very well.

ooo, Supergaijin (do you live in Japan, just out of curiosity?) that's a brilliant idea.

Wow...I'm almost wanting to keep these for myself. :-)

Aww too bad WS is sold out online. Maybe I can find them in-store still...

I saw these at my local Home Goods store for about $6.

Ooooh, so pretty! I feel an Amazon splurge coming on (I've been wanting reusable glass/metal straws for a while now)...
