Vino: Happy Valentine's Day!

2008_02_14_Vino.jpgJenny has been our faithful wine writer from the beginning, and because her other work in the wine world has really taken off, this will be her last column for us. Thank you for all the recommendations and tips, Jenny! Good luck! Read on for her last recommendations, for Valentine's, most fittingly.

Of course there are many wines one can pair with Valentine's Day; it all depends on what you are cooking, your mood and what you like.

However, if you are looking for a few bottles that are romantic on their own, read on, as I've scoured the city and these are my picks for tonight:

Laurent Perrier Brut Rosé NV: This is a classic rosé, bone dry with a vibrant pink color; racy yet seductive. Astor $64.99

2005 Guy Revillon St. Amour Beaujolais: A Cru Beaujolais named after the uniquely appropriate village of St. Amour. A lighter bodied red made from Gamay, this wine will have fun, bright fruit that won't overwhelm your meal. Chelsea Wine Vault $19.99

Ch. La Rame, Ste.-Croix-du-Mont: A sticky sweet dessert wine that is unctuous, alluring and almost sinful. These vineyards look across the river Garonne to that other famous dessert wine region, Sauternes. This botrytized wine will be similar in style to Sauternes but a little lighter and a lot less expensive. Astor $29.99

After more than two years of writing a weekly Vino post for you, today's will be my last one. Thank you for the opportunity to write about this topic I cherish so. I look forward to reading on with you.

Jenny, thank you, good bye, and good luck! Thanks for a nod to a dry pink champagne. I've been defending the choice all day! (No! Really! It's good. And pink!) I'm being mocked here.

For those that want to make a champagne cocktail tonight, here's a recipe for a Bouquet of Rosé cocktail via the Bubble Lounge in San Francisco:

* Bouquet of Rose cocktail:*
3 1/2 oz Taittinger Domaine Carneros brut rosé
Spritz of rose water
1/2 oz Scence rose nectar

@ cmcinnyc - you are being mocked for recommending Laurent Perrier Rosé? You have the last laugh without doubt.
