Unlike some of the state's neighboring wine trails, Westside Road feels undiscovered; it is still quiet, graceful and sublime. This is especially surprising considering the quality of wineries who claim it as an address. If you are in the mood for exquisite Pinot Noir, Gary Farrell, Rochioli & Porter Creek are some of the county's best. For something different, the Hop Kiln winery explodes with farming history, complete with its original facility and hundreds of old photographs! Zinfandel lovers will enjoy Rabbit Ridge winery, in fact on this road there's practically a winery for every palate. Not that it would matter; the beauty of the drive itself is enough to escape with.
The road ends at the quaint, charming town of Healdsburg. A bucolic location with boutique shops and delicious restaurants encompassing a magnificent town square shaded by Grandfather trees.
WOW! thanks for this! I'm headed to Cali for a wedding in Sonoma this very weekend and was wondering which wineries to go to. I think you've made up my mind. Thanks Jenny!

Danger Man and I spent a long weekend in Healdsburg this past Spring, and we loved it. We loved the Rodney Strong winery -- very friendly and informative people there. We stayed at a very cool bed & breakfast called the Calderwood Inn. Our favorite part of Healdsburg was poking around in the little shops that rim the town square. Neither of us are shopping people, but there are some very seductive little items, without being all roosters and sawdust like some of the other towns up there.
I wish we had eaten at Barndiva -- that looked like a great unusual spot, and next time we'll try it. It's just a little outside of the main square, and easy to overlook.

If it's not too hot Healsburg is a great place for biking - beautiful views, not too busy car-wise, and there is a shop in town called Spoke Folks that rents bikes.

I went to Sonoma a year ago during the crush. I love that drive, and the wineries on the road. I would also stop at Arista and Moshin Vineyards. I also recommend staying at the Applewood Inn. It is in Guerneville, CA, which is this fun mountain gay resort town. Kind of strange but we loved the people there. I loved the Inn, but even if you can't stay there, go for dinner. The restaurant is wonderful.
