There is still plenty of basil left on our overgrown weed of a basil plant, and we think pesto is in the cards this weekend. A handful of summer-ripened tomatoes and some bread and mozzarella would round this out into a great weekend meal.
What are you eating this weekend? Here are a few suggestions.
Good weekend cooking
• Sip a cocktail with apple cider.
• Try this small delight for breakfast.
• Bake an apple cake.
• Make a pot of soup.
• Drink a Spanish wine.
• Visit a good farm.
• Tour an inspiring jam-maker's kitchen.
• Have you ever cooked goat?
• Try a five minute chocolate cake.
• Eat an apple.
What are you eating and drinking this weekend? Do you have any weekend cooking projects?

I think I may make some tortilla soup. That picture you have associated with the soup post makes me crave it sooooo bad. Here in AZ, though, the highs are still in the mid-90's. So no fall food weather here.

Homemade meatballs, homemade marinara with spaghetti and caesar salad.

Tonight we had Flat Iron steaks, twice baked potatoes, roasted asparagus with balsamic reduction, and brie en croute with apples. Well worth the 5 hours spent in the kitchen!
Pumpkin roll (my first time baking one) for dessert, if I don't fall asleep!
Tomorrow corn chowder with some super sweet corn our favorite farmer's market vendor still has.
Sunday if it cools down enough pot roast.

No knead bread (original version) w/rosemary (rising as I type), flank steak and roasted roasted butternut squash w/parmesan (posted as a dip/appetizer earlier in the week) on Sunday and not sure about tomorrow. Tonight is pasta as we are both too tired.

I'm going to make some mustard pickles WITHOUT cauliflower, as it ruins everything it touches. I'm also gearing up to make red and green tomato chow. I grew up on green tomato chow, but I thought when I go to make it for myself I'll throw in some red tomatoes and see what that's like. It'll be pretty, anyway, and even if it doesn't taste good it the whole house will smell great when it's cooking.

In just a few days I have become addicted to Molly's "boiled" kale over at Orangette. It is sublime. But I may have to make a bit of mac 'n' cheese as well and some cookies, something autumny...oatmeal maybe with dried cranberries and pecans instead of raisins and walnuts. And there will be soup. I have a fresh supply of dried porcini, and I feel a mushroom broth with udon or soba noodles in the offing.

Making a Civet de Lièvre with a hare that our neighbor gave us after his most recent day out hunting. We'll see how it turns out.
Having friends over for dinner tomorrow. Tarte Tatin will most likely be dessert.
Also making a big batch of Green Tomato Chutney.
And having a glass of wine. Or two.

I made the sweet potato and tempeh stew. I really enjoyed the spices. I think I would use tofu if I make it again. I don't eat much tempeh and I didn't really like the texture.

Get home from work on Saturday at 9:30pm. Throw onions, garlic and then tomato in the pan. Chicken broth and some random array of spices from the cabinet. Cook rice. Microwave asparagus, add lime, butter and salt. Throw shrimp into pan with onion and tomatoes. Consume out of bowls while sitting on couch trying to understand Sabado Gigante.
Maybe tomorrow I'll find the time to actually cook. Maybe.

I ended up making vegetable beef soup in my slow cooker. I *heart* my slow cooker! I threw chopped veggies (onion, celery, tomato, green beans, garlic), some chuck steak cut into small cubes, a couple of cans of diced tomatoes and some beef broth into my slow cooker. (Well, and some thyme and oregano.) Turned it on and left to run errands. Came back to a *delicious* smelling house. Added a couple of small potatoes. Let it cook for a couple more hours. And now I have a bowl of healthy and delicious soup in front of me.
I made some wheat rolls (most of the work done by my breadmaker. I love it when machines help me out on busy days!) to accompany the soup. Tasty happy goodness.
:)
