Living vicariously through SK's travels, I am daydreaming of Spanish wine. I see a coastal town, an outdoor café, plates of fresh seafood, glasses of Albariņo and then siesta!
Thought to be Spain's finest white wine, Albariņo is grown in Spain's northwest corner, near Galicia, just above the border of Portugal. In Portugal, Albariņo is called Vinho Verde, due to the wine's slightly green hue.
Classic Albariņo is identified by its almond paste smell, although it can also have peach, lemon and floral scents. However don't let the heady and perfumed nose fool you; this is not a heavy and rich wine. On the contrary, Albariņo has bracing acidity, which makes it delightfully refreshing and an excellent companion to many foods.
Burgans by Bodega Martin Codex, is one of the largest proponents of Albarino and quite possibly one of the best producers. This is a young wine that should not be aged but consumed right away. Right now, 2004 is the best vintage to buy.

Wow, what a coicidence--I just bought and consumed this wine, and it's fantastic. My boyfriend and I can /never/ agree on whites (anything he likes I find too sweet; anything I like, he dubs "sour"), but this was an exception.
What a great taste, had with salmon and drank the whole bottle.
