Name: Peachy Canyon Zinfandel
Grape: Zinfandel
Region: Paso Robles, California
Price: $7.99 to $10.99
Zinfandel is almost as American as apple pie. Though its roots trace back to ancient Greece and Italy, our fine country has claimed Zinfandel as our own.
Zinfandel is characterized by its pepper & jam qualities; big, rich fruit and spicy flavors. Zinfandel is also a very high alcohol wine, sometimes even breaking world records for levels of alcohol in a wine. The classic food pairing of this heritage wine is barbecue. The spicy sweet flavors of each enhance and complete one another.
Peachy Canyon Winery is a small family-owned and operated winery in the Paso Robles region of California. Their “Incredible Red Zinfandel” is an excellent bargain and should be a good example of fun, inexpensive Zinfandel for this holiday weekend.
Stores: Grapes the Wine Company, $10.99 (11 Purdy Avenue, Rye New York), Beacon Wines and Spirits, $9.99 (2120 Broadway between 74th & 75th Street), Astor Wines $7.99, Sale!, (399 Lafayette @ 4th Street).

I've had this. And it's a great deal, especially for the price. Actually, there are many great inexpensive Zins and Syrahs coming from various vineyards along the central coast of California: Paso Robles, Santa Maria.
I've had this too - on my last visit to California. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the reminder!
A great pick! It's $8.99 at Trader Joes - we love it, it's always a great choice and totally affordable.
...sorry - $8.99 at Trader Joes in Los Angeles :)
Astor is having a sale 11a-4p July 4 on ALL California wines. It's too heavenly when NYC empties out AND the wine goes on sale . . .
Happy Fourth and Canada Day everyone!
