Fall is in the air and the garden is overflowing with tomatoes. It is time for a lively red with flavors that stand up to tomato sauces.

Believe it or not, tomatoes are difficult to pair with wine, their strong acidity can be too overpowering for many wines. Fortunately the Italians have solved this dilemma and sangiovese is a perfect blend with all things tomatoe.

We put the 2004 Barco Reale di Carmignano to the test with a homemade lasagna and were delightfully pleased. Bright and brilliant fruit with intense dried fruit flavors was the perfect partner to our cheesy lasagna.

Hey, I was looking for a wine that would go with a big pot of red sauce last weekend! Thanks for this.

Mmmmmm....lasagna.
