Video: Manual Food Processor from Chef'n
International Home and Housewares Show 2008

Here is one of the more charming products we saw at the 2008 Home and Housewares Show this week. Watch this video! More info below...

This manual food processor is new, and we think that it's a great option for some small kitchens. We speak from experience and say that making pesto and grinding nuts is indeed much, much quicker in a food processor than with a knife and two hands; but food processors can get expensive and are too big for many small kitchens. This one, on the other hand, has no handles to stick out and take up precious cupboard space; it's small enough to stack inside a bowl.

We also like that it uses no electricity! Just think - fresh salsa when camping, or at the park. Plus you get a workout when you use it. It's quieter than a regular food processor too.

And the low price on this is appealing - both for small kitchens and even college students in dorm rooms. They'll be in stores soon for about $30.

We liked several of Chef'n's other products, too - they were playful without being silly or childish. We'll show you more soon...

I have a full-sized kitchen, and we never use our food processor b/c we hate dragging it out of the pantry. I think that I'm going to donate ours and get one of these instead!

A for design. I love that they even made the handle compact.

love it! does it chop down to a puree consistency? it would be great as a portable baby-food-maker.

I love it! I wonder how well it works on hummus?

What I particularly like is that you burn some calories as you cook. Since the industrial revolution, we've taken so many opportunities to burn calories out of our lives. A calorie here, a calorie there, and now we have an obesity epidemic to show for it. I'm all for human powered gadgets!

I would just get a small (mini-sized) food processor instead. This looks fun, but I have doubts about its practicality.

My immersion blender came with a little attachment that looks like the bowl of that, and I use it all the time in the place of a processor. That's probably the middle-man in between lazy and practical.

For just ten dollars more you could get a similarly-sized electric food processor, which seems like a much better option than standing at the kitchen counter pulling that rip-cord over and over.
