Video: How To Make Snow Ice Cream

We'll have to live vicariously through You Tube on this one, since we don't have a fire escape (where we could have left a bowl out last night) and we're too squeamish to go scooping snow off of parked cars. Anyone else making snow cream today? We've got our method, below. Tell us yours...

We called it snow cream as kids, and we always used sweetened, condensed milk. It was a little hard to mix in without the snow completely melting, which meant our bowl was usually filled with chunks of raw snow and sticky ribbons of Eagle Brand.

The video above is from Tawra Kellam of the website Living On a Dime. She uses milk mixed with sugar and vanilla- a thinner mixture that's much easier to stir into the snow. She's also making it outside, which might be miserable but probably slows the melting process. Any way you make it, snow cream has a short life; you have to eat it fast.

We know all of you in the Northeast are getting hit hard right now. Who's got a bowl on the windowsill? What are your tips for good snow ice cream?

I made snow cream yesterday-- not something I get to do very frequently here in Atlanta. My husband was very delighted with the special treat.

This looks cool. Sadly the Front Range of Colorado has not had much snow this year and the NWS just forcasted us for another dry and warm three months. Hopefully we'll get a cold front so I can try this.

I remember snow cream as a kid! Growing up in KY, we didn't get it often, not even every year. But I thought it was so cool!

I think this is kind of unappealing because of the fact that snow is first formed high up in the atmosphere around small nuclei of sand, dirt and other crap that may or may not come from questionable sources. Call me paranoid, but you may be slurping down something rather unappetizing along with your snow ice cream.

And no, don't use yellow snow!! :)
