The setup really couldn't be any better: film the grandmas of the world cooking their special recipes and preserve for posterity. That's the idea behind What's Cooking Grandma?, a new video weblog. With tips for filming and recording audio (but not for coaxing Grandma to appear on camera) and some great-looking recipes, this could be a treasure.
We hope that all the attention the site's been getting will encourage people to send in more footage of their grandma. After all, the recipe alone never seems to quite capture our grandma's touch; maybe the video will help us get her magical recipes right.

My midwestern grandmothers hated to cook and relied heavily on cream-of-whatever-soup recipes, so I absolutely love being able to borrow other people's grandmothers and culinary traditions.

i really love this idea. my aunt (who was like a grandmother to my sister and i) passed away last year, she was an amazing cook and i wish we had video of her making her special spring borscht, babka, and dumplings. what a wonderful idea.
