Continuing on the theme of vegetarianism, veganism and Lent, we drummed up a few faith-based vegetarian and vegan resources for those who lean in that direction:
• Veg4Lent
• Christian Vegetarian Association
• Episcoveg
• JesusVeg
• All Creatures

Beware!!!! The squemish should not venture onto All Creatures. I almost fainted. I'm quesy and my heart is racing.
Now that I've calmed down, by working on my root vegetable soup with beets, turnips, paresnips and carrots. (I left it out too long and decided to boil it again just to be safe and all the beautiful purple color turned sludgy green. Anyone know why?) I wanted to add that I am leaning more and more away from meat. That hideous epidemic of hoof and mouth in England and the newsphotos put me off beef for good. So these sites with their horror scenes are an effective method, but it is an emotional ambush and should always come with a warning. I posted about that zebra chair and the conflict of attraction and repulsion with some shoes. I struggle with this issue because I have friends who are vegan and my son renounced meat at age seven and remains revulsed by meat as a teenager. I continue to eat meat on occasion just to avoid making life more complicated, but it gets harder to keep seperate the gruesomeness and the creepy health and ethics issues and the food on the plate. I'm going to get myself Temple Grandin's new book and I highly recommend her book "Thinking in Pictures" I once had a pet chicken and she died a very unpleasant death. I realized all the love in the world can't spare living creatures death whether we eat them or not, but we should't turn away from our role in the policies regarding what we do eat.
