England Preserves
London

londonmarmalade.jpgWhen I was in London last month, a friend with excellent taste took me with her on her supermarket run to Waitrose, and was dismayed to find that they didn't have any England Preserves London Marmalade, settling for some of Prince Charles' reliable organic Duchy Originals instead. I had never heard of England Preserves. And no offense to his majesty, but a jar of London Marmalade tracked down at the newish Whole Foods on Kensington High Street proved to be the best jarred marmalade I have ever tasted...

pearchutney.jpgIt turns out that Kai Knutsen and Sky Cracknell started England Preserves in their small North London flat in 2001. Jams, condiments and chutneys from England Preserves are made in London with organic, carefully sourced ingredients and include flavors like Kentish Bramble Jam, Raspberry Deluxe Jam, Gooseberry and Elderflower Jam and Pear, Date & Ale Chutney. They use less sugar than conventional supermarket jams and allegedly don't boil the fruit, resulting in a memorably lush texture. England Preserves make a perfect edible souvenir from your next trip to London.

England Preserves is available for £ 4.60 at Whole Foods London and online here and here.

Ah, I was just in London a couple weeks ago and took a picture of that amazing packaging at the company's stall in Borough Market. (OMG, Borough Market: I am obsessed. Glasses of prosecco! Ridiculous chorizo sandwiches! Salted Caramel Ice Cream!!) I feel like I might have seen it on thedieline.com at some point, too--what great label design.
