Edible Escapes: What Is Yours?

2009_07_27-Escapes.jpgLast week we shared a few of our edible escapes with you. What's an edible escape? Well, it could be that one reliably indulgent treat that you eat (or drink) to give you a momentary uplift in daily life. It could also be a food that transports you back to a memory or a story. What's your edible escape? Here's a quick look back at ours.

Our Edible Escapes

Peppadews and Goat Cheese - Joanna
Ice Cream Straight from the Carton - Elizabeth
Rosé Wine from Provence - Faith
Chips, Beans, and Toast - Emily
A Bowl of Mussels - Emma
A Baguette Sandwich in Bayonne - Dana
Big Game Burritos and 100-Pound Veggies - Sarahrae

What's your edible escape? Something that brings back a distinct and tasty memory from a particular time in your life? A food you discovered while traveling? Or a simple treat that gives you a little escape from day to day life?

Cherry tomatoes, straight off the vine in my garden, still warm from the sun. It's heaven.

Authentic Mexican food just above the border in South Texas with a margarita. I go down a couple times a year and it's literally the meal I most look forward to all year.

Depending on where I want to return: a baguette, cheese and salami to remind me of my broke picnics on the beach in Nice, France; Rooibus tea to remind me of coming back from long truck drives in South Africa; and any local Tex-Mex joint to remind me of where I belong.

For me it's definitely sujaebi, a korean dumpling soup made with a potato and anchovy broth. So simple and comforting, perfect for a rainy day!

A sandwich from Collegetown Bagels, in Ithaca, NY. Hummus on a cheddar bagel with tomatoes, lettuce, and sprouts. It was something I ate in college when I needed a pick me up. Also, their hot cider and giant mocha chip cookies.

Ah! I love Collegetown Bagels! I would get their raspberry whipped cream cheese on a honey wheat bagel toasted.
