Tip: Condimaniacs, Use A Clean Spoon

2007_05_17_spoonjar.jpgPremium condiments merit special treatment. When your inner condimaniac springs for $5 capers, $10 mustard, $15 tomato paste, or $20 honey, do all you can to make sure you use every good drop of the stuff before it goes off.

On Saturday, I was thrilled to meet jam genius June Taylor at the Ferry Plaza Market in San Francisco and shyly asked her the best way to make sure her tomato paste keeps for a while.

June Taylor shared this simple tip: Use a clean spoon each time you dip into the jar.

We sometimes get distracted or lazy in the kitchen and don't reach for a new spoon each time we reach into the jar so this is a great reminder. Be kind to your condiments and they will be kind to you.
