How To Install a Cookware Pegboard

2009_02_23-Pegboard.jpgWe're in the final stretch of the February Jumpstart - all the entries are in, and we have a few more to show you this week before the winners are decided. But there's still time for you to get that one little kitchen project done before the end of the month, so you can go into March with something fresh! Like this pegboard, for instance, which we saw in Domino and had to show you.

Pegboards, popularized by Julia Child, are a great way to organize your pots and pans within easy reach, if you have the wall space. We've shown you some great examples in the past, and now here is a very good step-by-step guide to building your own.

The crowning touch that we think is cute (albeit slightly impractical) is painting outlines of your cookware to show you where things go.

I so want one. Now, if only the bottoms of my pans were that clean...

Drawing the outlines can be pratical, if you're the sort of person who likes everything put back in the same place, and it can help if you want your pegboard really full (you figure out a way everything fits, and keep it that way.) I'm the sort of person who wouldn't bother to do this, and then gripe at my husband for putting something in the 'wrong' place.

Don't worry about the bottoms of your pans. Those scratched and stained bottoms are badges of culinary honor! I love my pegboard wall.

I did this last night. Love it.

I like an outline myself, so my darling spouse puts stuff back where I made a place for it and doesn't shove things desperately into cupboards where they later tumble out onto me.

I have a pegboard in the kitchen that needs replacing and am seriously considering upgrading to this metal version: Steel Pegboard from Wall Control. I love that it has a paper-towel holder option and multiple sizes of sturdy shelves and brackets. AND it comes in cool colors! Is there a Kitchen Cure coming up?

Aaron - WOW! Thank you for that.

My peg board has been up for a little over 12 hours and I already want to upgrade. haha
