Vintage Porcelain Spoon Holders

2008_06_23-SpoonHolders.jpgHave you ever seen anything like these porcelain spoon holders? We're semi-obsessed with these obscure pieces of formal dinnerware. They were designed to keep spoons for a buffet or coffee station elegantly available.

We love how they force you to pick up the spoons by the handles - not the bowls. It's a nice solution to how to present extra spoons - we usually just jam them in a bistro glass. But this is much more elegant!

Have you ever seen one of these? At your grandmother's, perhaps?

i have a set that looks exactly like the photo above. they belonged to my grandmother and are now part of my own collection. i thought it was such a neat design, plus i love having anything of hers in the house.

Here's an interesting (and cheap) alternative:

my family had something like this for chinese soup spoons. they would hold the spoons upside down. I can't find any pictures online though.
