Design Friday: Alligator Juniper Bowls

2007_08_24-Design.jpg

Alligator juniper is a desert tree, common in parts of New Mexico. This alligator juniper bowl by New Mexican woodworkers and builders Andy and Aaron Sanchez has been made from naturally cured juniper wood, polished against its natural grain, with an inset of turqoise. The juniper wood that they use is from dead-standing trees in the forests of New Mexico, massive and old.

Most of the trees harvested have been dead for over 50 years and naturally cured in the sun. This makes a beautiful, stable wood. We are in a mood for rustic, natural tableware at the moment, and we think these lovingly organic bowls are stunning. You can see more of their collection here.
