Sur La Table: Online

2007_04_09-SurLaTable.jpgSur La Table, French for On the table, first opened in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1972, selling gourmet cooking paraphernalia.Their stores are known for the high quality of their brands and merchandise, as well as for their emphasis on cooking classes and special events. You can see a listing of all their available culinary programs online.

Surlatable.com offers most of the merchandise found in the stores, and it's a great place to browse for high-end tools and cookware. Expect prices to be higher than Amazon or discount retailers, but also expect great customer service. They also offer a gift registry and a selection of handpicked, attractive recipes from star chefs.

I've only shopped their bricks and mortar store here in Chicago. It's always been a great experience. Lots of cool stuff, things you don't see everywhere else and prices that are surprisingly okay. And they always seem to have really great jazz playing when I've been there, a big plus for me.

I liked their Seattle store so much better than the one in NYC. Much more personality.
