2006_10_26BargainFair.jpgA terse sign warns that they will not return, refund or exchange any item that has been used, washed or even simply rinsed. Not even within an hour of purchase.

Welcome to Bargain Fair, conveniently located halfway between Canters and The Grove. Bargain Fair is one of those cranky old "you broke it you bought it" kind of places, at yet is has kind of an odd charm, thanks mostly to their selection.

If you are looking for kitchenware, come here. They have every type of plate, bowl, mug or cup you could possibly want, as long as you want white. Actually they do have a few other colors, but mostly it's white - all the better to show off your latest culinary masterpiece.

They also have a ton of serving dishes in all shapes and sizes. I particulary like a line nesting serving bowls that are egg shaped, similar to the ones Nigella Lawson does, but in a glossy white (what else?) finish rather than matte robin's egg blue or cream. Styles span traditional to contemporary to classic diner. They have a wide variety of kitchen storage solutions and they stock lots of glassware.

The range of pots and pans tends to not be of the best quality, although they do have a smallish selection that are restaurant grade. If you are planning a large holiday gathering, drop in and pick up a chafing dish. They have many to chose from. They also for some reason sell an odd assortment of nail polish, wallets, flip-flops and underpants. But rest assured, they will be a bargain.

Sounds like a cool store. I'm sure the "you wash it, you bought it" policy is because so many photo stylists--and increasingly, foodie bloggers--have bought pieces for a photo shoot, then returned them.

I would not recommend it. Besides, if you have a big order they only take cash (how unprofessional is that?) do they even declare taxes on that? no checks, money order, wire transfer, just cash. But the thing is, they will not tell you that initially. They will make you go through the hell of charging your credit card, sending a wire to later tell you. Oh we are having problems. We can only take cash or we have to cancel the order, BS!!! I wouldn't go there. Service is bad and besides the place is way too packed with boxes all over the place. It is not even safe walking in there.

It's a great family business..Nice and friendly service and unbelievable prices...Contrary to the last comment they take all kinds of payments (mastercard, visa, american express, atm and discover cards... I would highly recommend them.. They are the best dish store around..They also carry glassware, silverware and cookware at really reasonable prices...They have been around for over 29 years....I would not shop anywhere else ...

service is superb. they will not be in business for 29 years for nothing. a lot of customer keep coming back because of the variety of items. gift items, kitchenware, flatware, dinnerware and a lot more items that are usually put on top of the table. price? very reasonable and comparable to wholesale price.

Keep up the good work!

i am always fascinated when i walk around the store. there are a lot of items you can find that you never can find in a lot of stores in the same line of business from a miniature grater to the biggest pot/tray. sometimes i walk around the store just to while away the hours but i come home with a lot of purchases. Try it and you will agree with me.

i have been visiting the store from time to time and they always have something new to offer. the people are very friendly and helpful. prices are affordable and the product are of very good quality. i don't see why people will be returning something that they bought because if you are actually responsible enough you should have inspected the product before leaving the place. i have never returned anything i have bought from there. also, it is not true that they are only accepting cash because i always use my card when i am buying there. overall, i would recommend this place.
