The Latest Sweet On a Stick: Pie Pops!

2009_08_03-PiePops.jpgFirst it was cake pops, brownie pops, and cheesecake pops, then bacon and cheese pops. Now pie pops! Why hasn't anyone thought of this before? It's brilliant.

2009_08_03-PiePops02.jpgThese mini-pies-on-sticks are the creation of the blogger at Luxirare. She has plenty of how-to photos and a great reason for wanting eensy pies on sticks: "I want to eat pie, but I don't want a whole slice - I want to try other flavors too, but for just a little, and move onto another." Yep, us too.

So, will pie pops be the next big thing?

I like the small portion size but all those disposable sticks for such a tiny bite seems a bit wasteful.

Wouldn't those be "pop pies"? Ahem.

Cute but I love filling and this looks like a concept that is more about pastry than filling.

Cute, yeah. But I imagine my guest leaving the sticks all over the house and yard. Why not just put 'em on a plate and deliver them to the mouth by old-fashioned fingers?

Those are adorable! But, I would worry about the filling to crust ratio, too. In my world, pie is a nice big mass of something gooey with some flakes of dough scattered around...

I agree with dksbook. Why the stick? There's a really great single serving pie place near me. They don't have forks. Why? Because you can pick it up by the crust. It's not like a slice, which is open on the 2 largest sides. It's not like pie crust is, or should be, greasy.

All this pop stuff is getting ridiculous...

No to this one--there's too much crust for me. I'd almost always rather have more filling than more crust. Pocket pies are better. And individual wrappers? Hah, yeah right. That's too much work.

Maybe if you made them sort of like those mini quiches? A bit less crust, exposed filling, no stick, and just as convenient.

I've made them....the stick is cute, but I do agree; non essential. I'd be equally satisfied making them as "Bites" and packaging them the same way. That said, they were very well received, because people tend to like anything tiny...or at least I do!
