We have a whole arsenal of grown up and sophisticated desserts that are perfect for even the most discerning palatte, but since there's still usually a kid (or one at heart) at our Thanksgiving dinner tables, we can't help but make something silly once in awhile—like these super easy turkey cupcakes.
These cupcakes can be made from any cupcake or cake recipe you so desire. Try out a red velvet if you're going for gruesome or maybe add in a filling (nothing says Happy Thanksgiving like a stuffed turkey right?) a plain white or chocolate recipe will suffice. You'll need a chocolate frosting, a very small amount of white (we hit up the grocery store and bought a mini tube of already prepared), candy corn and chocolate sprinkles.
Although they look time consuming, we made over 50 of them in just under a half hour (not including bake time), just do 1 step to all the cupcakes before moving on. You can check out the application process in our amazing illustration above to see how they all came together. Enjoy!

How cute! I originally thought the base was going to be Brazilian brigadeiros, which I guess would also work.

these are great! i really want to make them!
any suggestions on how to do the frosting globs? do you use a frosting bag, or how exactly do I do them so that they are the right size and can with hold the weight of the candy corn? thanks!!

I did use a frosting bag, which mainly gave me control over making the head round. The tail feather mound doesn't have to be as round, but more long and thick for the corns to stick in. What will help them stay in the most is a quick chill if you're working in a warm room.
I had the oven going with other things and a few of my turkeys faces melted right off before they formed that thin frosting-crust to hold things together!
Good luck!

Wish I knew this before daughter's daycare Thanksgiving potluck lunch today. At least can use this next year!

You might want to check the frosting recipe linked here; it never thickened beyond the consistency of a glaze, and I wonder if there was an error in the recipe or it was something I did. Quite disappointing.
