Bread and Chocolate: Chocolate No-Knead Bread

2008_01_22-ChocolateBread.jpg

Will No-Knead Bread ever die? We don't think so. Here is yet another variation from Jessica at Su Good Sweets: Chocolate No-Knead Bread.

We are thinking of this toasted, with something yummy on it - maybe bananas? Or a little sweet butter and sea salt...

Mine is rising right now...will be baking it tonight. It took me like 5 minutes to throw it all together before bedtime last night. I love how easy this is.

I tried the plain ol' no knead bread on the weekend and I'm in love. Hopefully this chocolate bread turns out ok. I am a bit worried about the salt... seemed like a lot, but we'll see.

Wow this bread recipe is foolproof.

Because I got stuck at work, the first rise was over 24 hrs. Then because I was tired and wanted to go to bed, the second rise was only about 1/2 hr. Then I totally forgot about brushing the milk on and doing the sugar sprinkles. Oh and I also forgot about step 2, folding it and letting it sit with plastic wrap over it for 15 minutes. Can you tell I was tired last night?

The texture turned out great - especially the crust. But I'm not a fan of the flavour. It only has a very slight cocoa-ish taste - I think its just too subtle of a flavour for my liking. I had it with peanut butter this morning and it was ok.

My kids said it had a bad aftertaste, and I kind of agree with them. Sort of like burnt chocolate. I think that may be because my oven seems to get a little too hot.

Anyhow, I doubt I'll make the chocolate version again just because I'd prefer a more plan loaf, or a plain loaf with a chocolate ribbon going through it vs this one. You may like this if you try it.
