Has anyone bought meat from La Cense Beef?
We're asking because the construction site across the street from the Apartment Therapy offices is covered in these posters directing passers-by to winagrassfedcow.com. Here in Soho we see plenty of ads promoting make-up, dance CDs, and dreamy high-end condos, but ads about winning a cow are definitely a change of pace.
We can appreciate a fresh ad campaign, but have learned to be just a bit suspicious of all food advertising.
We hope La Cense is one of the good guys. Luxist liked LaCense calling the grass-fed beef "denser and more flavorful."
Tell us what you know about this ranch in southwest Montana. (By the way, this headline about the pocketful of beef is from one of the ad headlines.)

out of curiosity, i called la cense. everyone answered all my hard questions, and politely i might add.
as a vegan, i won't be eating any beef, but here's what i learned--la cense says it has no feedlots, no long-term slaughterhouse stays, every shipment of cows is processed within a day of arrival at a USDA certified slaughterhouse, and the aged beef is vacuum packed so you can store it in your freezer for a long time. they say up to a year.
the big question for me was oversight of slaughter. they send their own people over to oversee it. they choose a facility that is as close to the ranch as they can manage.
consider what you pay for. supermarket beef always means improper feed [cows are still fed ground up cows, meaning mad cow exposure], feedlots [read 'torture, terror, muddy muck, loss of nutrient in beef], unknown length of time in store, false labelling--there have been plenty of news shows on this--and more. if you pay for what you get, you get what you pay for--your health. at the end of the day, nature always says 'pay me now, pay me later,' as my old biology professor used to say. might as well let the cow eat right, pay more for it, perhaps eat less of it, enjoy it, and not die from it. seriously.

I tried La Cense Beef last month after seeing their mention in Eating Well magazine. I think they are a great source for clean meat, and I feel comfortable serving it to my family since it has no hormones, anti-biotics, or pesticides. I have been to Southwest Montana before as well. It's very remote and lightly populated, which makes me feel confident that the cows are breathing clean air and drinking fresh water.
I hope this campaign really does help people understand that grass-fed beef is out there and that it's a good alternative for those who are frightened by feedlots - as we all should be.

Big LaCense fan here too... I've been ordering from them for a while now and have had a great experience. I'm confident these are one of the good guys.

You know it's so funny to come across this post... I saw those same posters in Chelsea yesterday - I was taken back when I first saw them (as well). The one I saw was hilarious, (I believe from a Snoop Dog song) - I Got A Freezer Full of Grass Fed Beef and My Homeboys Do To...
Checked out the site - www.winagrassfedcow.com
They have tons of funny user generated parodies in the site tout...
One that really made me laugh was - We Don't Need No Stinking Feed Lots... Love It - cause we don't need more feed lots - we need more grazing in the grass-fed cows...
Viva La Grass Fed...
