Survey: What Was the First Liquor You Ever Bought?

2008_05_26-Liquor.jpgDo you remember the first time you bought a bottle of liquor? We were goody-two-shoes in college and really didn't touch the stuff. Then it was a very cheap bottle of brandy for baking, in early cooking days, and after that we went straight to the top and bought a bottle of Hendricks gin for home consumption. We're curious - what was your first foray into the wide world of spirits?

It was Finlandia's Cranberry vodka--I can't find it anymore and I sometimes miss it like a long lost friend.

Kahlua. I used to just mix it with milk - not quite a White Russian, but good enough for me.

My friends and I drank a lot of spiced rum when we were under age (our drinking age is 18) in Highschool.

We drank it so often at parties that it's become the one liquor I avoid like the plague!

I bought vodka, but not for drinking, for cleaning the house and making homemade coconut extract. I don't drink.

I was such a lush in high school even though i didn't care for the taste of alcohol. Therefore i purchased the alcohol that would get the job done the fastest... grain alcohol (yikes!)

we were all about the everclear where I went to college. **shudder**.

after college, a good friend bought me 3 small bottles to help start my "liquor cabinet" as a housewarming present when I moved to her neighborhood: kahlua, dewars and...I think peach schnapps?

Believe it or not, I think I still have that bottle of dewars. And this gift was given in 1992.

Rum. But I didn't do the actual buying, I found a 21 year old to do that. We would mix it with anything we could get our hands on.

Orange flavoured coolers, that tasted like orange pop :( I was 20. I was a late bloomer.

Vanilla vodka... I used to mix it with Diet Coke for a sickeningly sweet drink that only a college girl could enjoy!

my first purchase was a double hitter: vodka and peach schnapps. 10 years later i still have vodka in my liquor cabinet, but the schnapps have no purpose here anymore...

Hmm...Those days were all kind of a blur. I don't know what liquor I bought for the first time, but I drank plenty of it.

Madeira for my roommate who needed it for a Thanksgiving dish. I was 18.5 years old and looked older of the two of us. I didn't get carded unless I was with her. Legal age is 21. It was when I was a freshman at UC Berkeley. Never talked with her after that year. But have subscribed to Gourmet and Bon Appetit ever since. And it's been over 20 years.
