We were surprised to learn that almost half of Kitchen readers have garbage disposals according to last week's survey. Today we're wondering if you have under-cabinet lighting.
Under-cabinet lighting helps cooks catch all the fine print of a recipe and can make a new kitchen look snappy. But some types of under-cabinet lighting will heat the bottom of the cabinets. (I learned the hard way . . . Don't store chocolate on the shelf above the under cabinet lights!)

i have ikea undercabinet lights and i hardly ever use them. their harsh light always shows every little smudge of dust or funk...it makes this neatfreak rather sad whilst cooking... but, heh, i've used them when cleaning so i can see the funky spots!
i do not, sob, have a garbage disposal......sigh.

We plan on installing LED lighting this summer. While still pricing it out, there seem to be some strips that have come down in price, but if that doesn't work we will choose xenon.

I'm surprised to learn that *only* half have garbage disposals. I'm aware of only two people I know without them here (Southern California). It must be because we don't have many old dwellings.

No box for "Bought some at Ikea but haven't gotten around to putting them up . . ." ?!?!?!

I've got mini fluorescent lights under my cabinets and love 'em to bits. Perhaps it's because the general kitchen lighting isn't so great.
Can't say whether they heat up the cabinets, as there's no food stored above them. My only gripe is that the replacement bulbs aren't cheap.

definitely like the additional light it gives on the counter underneath: helps a lot when I cook, etc.
ad definitely agree with michelle: those replacement bulbs aren't cheap.

Don't put honey on the bottom shelf either unles you want it to crystalize from the heat of the lights.

The uc lighting I use on my projects is by w.a.c. They are halogen lights in a light "bar" and have the transformer integrated into the unit. Very handy. I think they're great.
