Survey: Do You Grill?

2009_06_02-Grilling.jpgWe are plunging into Outdoor Month and our My Great Outdoors event here at The Kitchn and Apartment Therapy (are you ready to show us your outdoor space, big or small?) and of course grilling will be a hot topic. But before we get into the grill tips, tricks, and recipes, we want to check your temperature. Are you able to grill? Do you like to grill? Tell us if grilling will be part of your summer cooking.

If you don't grill, or if you don't know how, then tell us: what sort of resources would you like to help you get grilling this summer?

I love to grill! I've actually just discovered the grill this year. My husband and I have had a nice grill since we got married two years ago, but at our rental house it was difficult to get to and I was scared to use it. Now, we've lived in a house of our own for a few months with a patio, and it is so easy to just go outside and flip on the grill. I love coming home from work and just throwing something on. I'm still a beginner, though - I haven't branched out too much and certainly could use some tips and recipes!

If I had a place in which to grill... but my 1 bedroom 4th floor walk up doesn't even have a fire escape.

I'd like to know how to grill affordably... are there methods or cheaper cuts of meat than making steaks? Also, vegetarian grill recipes?

I have used a grill once or twice, but our condo association doesn't allow grills (whaaa?), so I adapt recipes to use with the broiler. It's never the same, though - grilled food has that awesome smokey charred flavor that a broiler just can't replicate! I can't wait to get my own someday.

Absolutely! Grilling (we call it bbq here in NZ) is a fundamental part of a New Zealand summer. I do it as much as possible in summer. Great for feeding crowds and the men that are around tend to do a lot more cooking when there is grill involved.

this is our first year living in a place that allows us to have a bbq. it is sooo wonderful! we've been grilling as much as the weather will allow. last sunday we had success with our first attempt at grilling a whole butterflied chicken. it was quite charred, but still tender and juicy inside. perfect!!

My dad grills pretty much every night during the summer, to the point where my mom has to request inside cooking, so I grew up loving grilled food. The bf and I aren't hardy enough to grill year-round (we live in CT), but I broke out the grill this weekend. We have a classic Weber kettle grill (charcoal only, thank you!). As for your question, Jeni_Rae, you can grill anything! We usually make chicken or burgers, which are both cheaper than steak, but you can do veggies or pizza too.

Jeni_Rae, I love grilled pineapple, grilled vegan pizza, and bananas stuffed with dark chocolate in foil (you could add peanut butter)

If I had a grill, I'd use it a lot more often. Grilled veggies are the best! And I love grilling up multiple chicken breasts and then using the leftovers for sandwiches and salads the next day or two. Such good flavor. :)
