I would never get around to re-stacking them, but the real deal-breaker is the shaker top. I want to be able to reach my measuring spoon into my spice jar. I put my spices in 4oz glass mason jars. The bonus is that these are stackable, if one is so inclined.

They do look pretty cool, but they are probably inconvenient for the serious cook.

I guess I would consider myself a somewhat serious cook. The problem I've had with spice racks was that too much clutter was created in the kitchen. I found myself with spices in racks on the countertop. But I still had spice jars in my kitchen drawers. I found that dedicating one or two drawers for spices worked most efficiently for me. Also, one of the first things I do when I purchase spices is pull off the plastic shaker tops.

Also, spices keep longer if they're not exposed to sunlight, so small tin canisters might be ideal. (Alton Brown is the king of this... he has some great ideas involving magnets and the insides of cupboard doors.)

I'd use something like this for the spices I don't use very often. It would keep me from continually having avalanches of little spice containers when I'm trying to dig out the ground tumeric from the back of the cabinet.

I just use small mason jars. They're inexpensive, stack nicely, have a spot for labels, are reusable, and last forever. Maybe not the prettiest spice storage solution, but it's the best I've found so far.

I really love the Soho Magnetic Spice Boards. They can go on a wall or on a cabinet door. They really look like artwork on the wall.
