Hot or Not: Rotary Garlic Slicer

2008_06_19-Garlic.jpgWe're obsessed with all the garlic gadgets on the market. It seems like we see a new one every day! While we pretty much stick to our chef's knife, we are still curious about all these unitaskers - ahem, gadgets. What about this one - anyone use this slicer? It promises to slice a whole bunch of garlic cloves at once. Purchase link below, if you're so inclined.

I am a chef.

I would buy this in a second!

Why?

Garlic chips.

Brilliant.

I think I've said this here before, but uni-taskers belong to uni-thinkers. It looks like I could fit a shallot in there, and that would rock. And morels. Pickled radishes. Water chestnuts. Cheese. Stephanie Izard's braised pistachios. And on and on and on. ;)

I would buy this IF it works really well, as I've found many garlic gadgets aren't quite as good as a chef's knife.

Great recipe art, thanks, I wish I had some right now they look great with a sprinkle of sea salt! Nice website as well, stunning pictures.

I prefer minced garlic or whole pieces. I never cut slices with a knife so I wouldn't use a machine just to make slices.

This would be great. My knife skills are not the best and perfectly-sliced garlic would be a great help.

Almost everyone on Amazon who bought one hates it, as you have to keep pushing the garlic into it with your fingers.

A long time ago I got a Bodum garlic slicer. It will do essentially what this device does, but takes up much less space. Is it a uni-tasker? Yes. Does it do its job well? YES. Is it easy to clean? YES.

Sometimes multi-function devices are nice, and sometimes its nice to have a dedicated device on hand that's simple and convenient.

Besides size, the other reason I prefer the Bodum slicer is it doesn't seem to require the large volume of garlic this one does.

Hmm... it seems like the Bodum slicer is impossible to find. Taking that into consideration, if that every breaks I'm gettin' me one of these!!
