Hot or Not: Breakfast in Bed

2008_05_13-BfastinBed.jpgWe're guessing that a lot of mothers across the country were served breakfast in bed on Sunday. Something about waking up to a tray of eggs, coffee, perhaps a flower in a bud vase is considered the ultimate in pampering.

However, we're not big fans of eating in bed. It's often awkward, cumbersome, and messy, trying to navigate around a wobbly tray.

I'd never ask for it, but when my kids bring it in, it's so cute that I don't resist.

Breakfast in bed is like sex on the beach--great image, not so hot reality.

Given that any breakfast I'm most likely to enjoy involves lots and lots of syrup, I'll eat at the table, please. Coffee and a magazine in bed, however, was a great way to start my Mother's Day.

when i was 8 i made my mom breakfast in bed for mother's day. it consisted of a bowl of granola and a couple of iced cookies. the best part was the instant coffee i made. i was too young to actually make coffee or boil water, so i used warm tap water. i also put in two heaping tablespoons of instant coffee. my mom loves coffee and i was so proud of myself for making it that i kept urging her to drink more of it. this is, of course, after i had woken her up at 8am. when i got older she admitted that it was the strongest 'coffee' she had ever had.

Leftover apple pie makes for a great breakfast in bed.

I serve my wife breakfast in bed every morning (unless she wakes up before me which is rare). Sometimes it is simple, fruit, cereal and coffee, other times more ambitious, french toast, etc. She loves having breakfast the minute she awakes and I love providing it for her.
