San Francisco Farmer's Market Report: Alemany

2009_07_01-AlemanyA.jpgAt the Alemany Farmer's Market this past weekend, I saw a lot of Filipino vegetables, stone fruits, beans, squash, and cherries. Tomatoes haven't hit their peak yet - there were a few, but they were too orange and need another week to ripen. See what else was in season at the market ...

I will eat all of those figs.

Also, "vary good for pickling"? Awesome. Pickled grapes sound delicious!

To me that green looks like what is known as "gongura" in Indian (specifically Andhra) cuisine. It's a sour green related to hibiscus that is great in dal or as a pickle. It's often available also at the Oakland farmer's market on Fridays. I love it.

No way are mangosteens local! I didn't even think they were allowed to be imported - but I guess they can be...
