All the pork talk this week has us craving our favorite summer sandwich - BLTs, of course! It's not even worth making one with the out-of-season tomatoes right now (especially given the recent press about tomato pickers), but we can still daydream. What's your idea of a perfect BLT?
We love BLTs with lightly toasted bread - sourdough is the best, but we'll settle for a hearty country white. We coat both the top and bottom slice with a thin layer of mayo. Tender Boston Bibb lettuce is our favorite, paired with (of course) sweet summer tomatoes. We like the tomatoes sliced thick and laid on the sandwich in a single layer.
For putting in BLTs, we like thick-cut bacon that's so smoky you can smell it as soon as you open the package. We cook it until it's crispy but still has some bite, and use just a few slices to balance the lettuce and tomatoes.
Ok, we have to stop talking now or else there's no way we'll be able to wait until summer. Can you guess which summer crop we're most excited for right now?!

Exactly like that except I usually don't bother with the lettuce but add mashed avocado and serve with Utz potato chips!

First I start with good sourdough or this tuscan bread we always get, smeared ith a bit of herbed butter and toasted on a skillet. Add mayo to the bread top with whatever good tomato we can get our hands on (I like the tomato touching the mayo so the juice can mix). Thick cut bacon about 4 pieces, Bibb or butter leaf lettuce then another piece of toast with mayo. Then eat whatever tomato is left with some salt or greek seasoning.

Yes, a BLT with avocado, divine! Hydroponic tomatoes are now in our Farmer's Market here in Austin, they smell good but I still have a hard time trusting tomatoes this time of year. Yet I want a B(A)LT sooo badly. I have a feeling my stomach will beat my brain in this dilemma (as in most).

I have been making Teriyaki Chicken BLT with homemade mayo, and Teriyaki chicken tastes absolute brilliant with Mayo BLT (give it a shot please!). I know it's not tomato season, but I just need the "all star" sandwich once in a while to fulfill my craving!

A BLT is basically a mayonnaise delivery vehicle (and a bacon one too). I love them with the bread toasted dark and lots of mayo and fresh ground black pepper.

Lightly toasted rye, liberal amounts of mayo on both sides, the tomato come in contact with the mayo, lettuce, bacon and tomato again, cut at an angle... I miss bacon. (veggie here)

Comicgeek, those fake bacon strips make a pretty good BLT, especially with some avacado, like bos-ted. I like to add some thousand island dressing or some fresh salsa verde. A canned slice of pineapple is a good substitute for tomatoes, a BLP, for winter.

I think it is very unkind to post about BLTs in March.

Yes to all the above. I love BLTs---and thick slices of avocado increases the joy. We like "picnic" BLTs too: slice across the bacon to make tiny pieces before frying. Add the drained bacon to finely shreded the lettuce and diced tomatoes. Add some shredded cheddar cheese and mayo to bind it all together, and wrap in a warmed flour tortilla. Pack in a sack and head to the park.

You can have a delicious BLT this time of year by mixing chopped, good sundried tomatoes with your mayo. As a bonus, you can take your time eating as there's no soggy corner to race ahead of.

Oh a BLT :) I love mine on a hearty toasted bread, sourdough or this delicious whole grain bread I've discovered at my local Whole Foods. I then skip the mayo (gasp!) and instead slather on some ranch dressing. I layer the lettuce and tomatoes (I also like Bibb lettuce and thick slices of my tomato) and then I sprinkle a little gray salt and some pepper before adding the bacon. To top off my masterpiece I add some avocado slices, sometimes I like to mash it up and slather it right on the bread.
Is it tomato season yet?!
