apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Recycled Wine Box Kitchen Cabinets
Paris

mar20.jpgMarianne's Paris apartment didn't come with cabinets. "I didn't want to get an IKEA like everyone else," Marianne says. A DIY kind of gal, she started collecting empty wooden wine crates from supermarkets and wine stores, and drilled them into the wall as open storage in her kitchen.

super cute! A man I was dating a while ago did the same in his living room. Sigh.

What a novel idea! Trust a true Parisian to do this. Congrats Marianne

This looks too hodge-podge to me. I'd rather have shelves.

The clutter would drive me crazy!

Yeah, it comes across as a little junky and garage-sale-y to me. I know a lot of people like open cabinets in general, but I think they just make the space look cluttered.

So cute! When I moved into my apartment right after college my roommate and raided the local liquor stores for wine crates. Three years later I have "real" furniture, but kept the crates as a book shelf and side table. You really can't beat them for cheap modular storage, and the burned out logos have a lot of charm, especially compared to milk crates.
